Abstract

This IDC Manufacturing Insights study reveals the major findings of a recent global cloud computing survey, highlighting manufacturing-specific results from respondents across Central and Eastern Europe. The survey sought to gain a better understanding of current and future cloud adoption strategies, highlighting areas of focus among CEE manufacturers, preferences towards delivery models (private, public, and hybrid), workload and business process suitability for the cloud, and the drivers and inhibitors to cloud technology adoption. The results specifically focus on CEE manufacturers and extrapolate findings for the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Russia.

"The hype around the cloud has certainly caused a stir. So much so, that many manufacturers in CEE are more skeptical than excited about its future prospects. CEE manufacturers understand the fundamental shift in the way IT is viewed and delivered using cloud technologies. However, they feel the risk of making large-scale moves outside of IaaS is still too great. This is expected to change, as positive implementations become more widely publicized. This will increase confidence in cloud technologies, leading to greater investment in the long run." – Senior Research Analyst Craig Simpson, IDC Manufacturing Insights CEMA.
